Overview

This "core strength" training and running program is for all levels of participants. It features a series of unique exercises designed to strengthen your body's "core" - that is, the muscles of the hips, abdomen, back, and middle and upper torso. A stronger "core" will help you:

  • increase your overall conditioning and running performance

  • enhance your flexibility

  • reduce your risk of injury

Workouts last approximately 1-1/2 hours. In addition to running, you will go through a varied circuit of drills using training tools such as resistance bands, balance boards, exercise balls, as well as techniques that simply leverage your own body weight. These exercises will improve your strength, balance, coordination, flexibility - and, ultimately, your running performance.

Location

Workouts* are held October 28 through December 19 at:

Accelerated Physical Therapy Center
2400 North Sheffield Avenue, Chicago
(northwest corner of Sheffield and Fullerton, on the west side of the parking lot)

It's quickest and easiest if you come already dressed for your workout. However, if you may change on site if needed.

Parking - Available in the lot in front of the building ($1 with validation). Street parking is very limited.

CTA - The Red, Brown, and Purple line trains stop at Fullerton, just one-half block east of the training site. Need additional info? Get detailed CTA maps, bus schedules , and train schedules , or call 312.836.7000.

* In addition, a Saturday morning Bonus Session is offered from 8:30 to 10:00 AM during the program. This session is held at the CARA bulletin board in Chicago's Lincoln Park. The board is located on the lakefront running path, just south of Diversey. The Bonus Session will feature speed, fartlek, hill, and long run workouts (runner's choice). A group "brunch" follows each workout (at participant's cost). Details will be provided when the program begins.

Bonus Session - In addition, a Saturday morning bonus session is offered from 8:30 to 10:00 AM during the program. This session is held at the CARA bulletin board in Chicago's Lincoln Park. The board is located on the lakefront running path, just south of Diversey. The Bonus Session will feature speed, fartlek, hill, and long run workouts (runner's choice). A group "brunch" follows each workout (at participant's cost). Details will be provided when the program begins.

Register in advance and you'll save time and hassle. However, you may also register on site if you prefer. Your options are:

By fax – If paying by credit card, you may fax your completed form to us at 312.781.1736.

By mail – Mail your completed form and payment to CARA, 203 North Wabash Avenue, Suite 1104, Chicago, IL 60601. If paying by check, make it payable to "CARA". Please do not send cash via mail. Allow plenty of time for your registration to reach us.

On site – You may fill out a registration form at the first session or bring your completed form with you. You may pay with cash, check, VISA, MasterCard, or Discover.

Sorry, no refunds will be provided in full or in part for any reason, including injury, after a program begins. No prorated fees are provided for late enrollments. You must be at least 18 years of age and complete an entry form and waiver.
