Marathon + Marathon Combo Package. (starts the week of April 4)
Program Description
|
This nine-week program will help you prepare to complete a half marathon (13.1 miles).
There are several races in the area that you can target with this program. The Sunburst Half Marathon in South Bend,
Indiana on June 4 and the North Shore Half Marathon in Highland Park on June 12 are just two that coincide well with
CARA’s Half Marathon Training Program Schedule. To check out other races in the area to target, go to CARA’s online
race calendar at http://www.cararuns.org/race_calendar/index.html
|
CARA’s Half Marathon Training Program is also a great way to build your base for
CARA's LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon Training Program.
Check out our Combo Package and save $25!
You’ll have another chance to target a half marathon with our fall session. It will lead
up to the Chicago Half Marathon on September 25
on Chicago’s south side lakefront. Watch this page for details.
Program Description – Clinics
Join us for a series of informative clinics specifically related to longer distance training.
Registered participants may attend clinics at any location. They are held on weekdays and feature a
presentation only. (you do not need any running gear)
You should try to attend every clinic. Even if you are a previous participant or experienced runner, you
can always learn something new at these sessions. We vary the information provided in each program. It's
also a great opportunity to get answers to your specific questions. For example, a
NovaCare Rehabilitation Physical Therapist
will be at each clinic to answer questions you may have. Clinic topics are:

Program Description – Group Runs
Registered participants may attend group runs at any location during the program.
In order to maximize your opportunity for success, we strongly recommend that you to have an
adequate training base in place before entering the program.
- You should be running at least 15 miles per week on a regular basis.
- You should have at least one run of five miles or an 8k race within the last month.
The first training run is five miles and the longest run is twelve miles. (
view sample schedule
) Your pace is not important, but you should be able to continually
run (i.e., without having to walk) this first distance entering into the program. This program
features running only - it is not a run/walk program.
A variety of pace groups will be available.
Each one will be led by a Pace Group Leader.
These volunteers are there to help you along the course, provide support, and answer questions
you have to the best of their ability.
The number of pace groups may vary by site based on the number of participants and available
Pace Group Leaders, but they generally range from 7:30 per mile up to 12 minutes per mile.
Pacing guidelines and tips will be provided at your kickoff clinic which will help you determine
which group is right for you. Don't worry – You can switch pace groups if you decide you want
to run faster or slower.
