Marathon Training – Frequently Asked Questions
I am a beginner runner. Is this program for me?
No, not if you are just starting out running. Before entering into our Marathon Training Program
we recommend that you have been running consistently for 1 year, that you run at least 18 miles per
week on a regular basis, and that you have completed a run of 6 miles or more within the previous month.
Without this proper running base, the program would be too advanced for newer runners and could quite
possibly lead to injury. CARA offers many other programs for shorter distances. Start with a smaller
goal and work up to a marathon.
Can I run at other training run sites?
Yes. You may switch sites at any point during the program. You will be given a shoe tag in your
packet, which to be worn on your shoe during the weekend training runs. This identifies you as a
paid participant in the program and allows you to go to different sites.
Is The LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon fee included in the training program fee?
No. The Race entry fee is separate – you can register at
www.chicagomarathon.com
I have never run a Marathon – can I do speed training?
No. This is not recommended for a first time marathoner. Your goal should be to finish the
Marathon.
What if I can’t pick up my packet at one of the designated Packet Pick Ups?
You can have a friend of family member pick up your packet for you. Just have them bring your
confirmation e-mail. Or you can opt to have your packet mailed to you at an additional cost.
