Corporate Circuit Rules
2004

What is the CARA Corporate Circuit?

It is a year-long series of eight (8) road races in the Chicago metropolitan area in which corporate teams compete under uniform rules and qualify for year-end awards and recognition. Individual team participants are not required to be CARA members. Individuals may compete on the Individual Circuit, Club Circuit, and Corporate Circuit at the same race.

Corporate team scoring will be done for each race based on the individual team members’ performances. Results will be mailed periodically. Awards, based on the cumulative standings at the end of the season, will be presented at the year-end CARA Awards Party.

All corporate teams will be considered CARA clubs but only individual CARA members receive discounts on race entry fees, at running stores, and in CARA training programs.

Can my company join?

Any non-running related company in the Chicago metropolitan area may field a team on the CARA Corporate Circuit.

Which runners may compete on my Corporate team?

Employees and their immediate family members (spouses, children, parents, and siblings) are eligible to compete for a corporation. Employees must be working a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week at the corporation as of each race date.

How does CARA know who my team members are?

Corporations entering the Circuit have two options for informing CARA of eligible team members:

  • your corporation may submit a roster to the CARA office that contains the name, sex, and age of all team members; or,
  • when you send team results to CARA (see notification section later in these rules), include the sex and CARA age group of all persons who will be scoring for the team for that race.

Any individual listed on more than one corporate roster will be ineligible for any Corporate Circuit competition until CARA receives notice from the individual of his/her current employer.

How will teams be scored?

Teams will compete in one of two divisions: a) Open Division, for companies with 2000 or more employees; or, b) Limited Division, for companies with fewer than 2000 employees.

For individuals, there will be 14 divisions based on age and gender, as follows: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over. Scoring will adhere to the age groups of each race, even if they differ from those listed here (Race Judicata will be scored in 10-year age groups).

Runners will score the value of the percentile of their finish place within their division. Each corporation’s score will be determined by averaging the top four members finishes (for Open Division teams) or the top three members finishes (for Limited Division teams).

The top scoring team will be awarded 15 circuit points. Each of the next place teams will be awarded one less point. All participating teams will be awarded a minimum of one point.

Corporations may score points in all eight races on the Circuit. However, only the top six (6) scores for each team will be used to determine the total scores for the season. In the case of a tie, three criteria will be used to break the tie: 1) number of races the team scored in; 2) the results of head-to-head competition between the tied teams; and 3) the team’s point total from its six best races.

How do I notify CARA of my team’s race results?

The team captain is required to submit to CARA, within one week after each race, a letter which lists all of the employees and relatives of employees who competed for the corporation, and their approximate finishing times. Send all results to Jeff Vorreyer, Corporate Circuit Scorer, by e-mail at jeffrey.vorreyer@cna.com; or mail to Jeffrey Vorreyer, CNA, 333 S. Wabash – 12th Floor North, Chicago IL 60685. Results and/or corrections will not be accepted if more than three races have passed since the race date. No more than one revision will be made per race.

What is the fee for participation?

The annual Corporate Circuit registration is $150 for all teams.

Fees do not include race entry fees. Each runner must pay the applicable entry fee for each race.
