North Branch Running Path
Cook County Forest Preserve

Chicago, Niles, Morton Grove, Glenview, Northfield, Skokie, Glencoe

All markers are painted in yellow and white on the asphalt running/bike path.

START:

Corner of Devon and Caldwell, heading northwest.

Mile 1:

Near South end of Bunker Hill parking lot (near Caldwell).
5 yards South of water pump on East side.

Mile 2:

Near North end of parking area, on a slight downhill, adjacent to Chicago River. Heading North, this is the first time you'll see the river.

Mile 3:

100 yards North of Howard Street.

Mile 4:

800 yards North of the top of the Oakton Street bypass.

Mile 5:

Over the Chicago River bridge on Dempster, just East of Lehigh Avenue. (Marked on North side of street)

Mile 6:

30 yards North of Beckwith Road. Chick Evans Golf Course is on the West side.

Mile 7:

50 yards North of Golf Road.

Mile 8:

134 yards South of the picnic area entrance, 300 yards South of Glenview Road.

Mile 9:

100 yards South of Lake Avenue overpass crest.

Mile 10:

Stay to the right when you come to the fork in the path. Marker is 10 yards West of railroad tracks. You see New Trier High School at this point. North of this marker, you will leave the Chicago River to follow the Skokie River system.

Mile 11:

390 yard North of Winnetka Road.

Mile 12:

One-third of a mile North of Willow Road, just South of end of horse trail fence.

Mile 13:

18 yards North of entrance to parking lot at Tower Road.

North of Tower Road, the trail enters the Skokie Lagoons dividing into West and East Sections, reuniting at Dundee Road.

Mile 14 W:

At wooden fence framing view of the lagoon.

Mile 15 W:

Middle of bridge over Skokie River, at Dundee Road.

Mile 13.5 E:

115 yards North of Tower Road.

Mile 14 E:

Just South of a rise curving through a wooded section.

Mile 14.5 E:

At Picnic Pavilion.

Mile 15 E:

15 yards South of 2 big green electrical boxes on East side of path.

At Tower Road, the West path is at 15.15 miles and the East path measures 15.3 miles. The section through the Chicago Botanic Garden is measured continuing the East path. In this area, the path is on the East side of the road. Walkers/runners should be within the yellow lines with bicyclists to the West of the double line.

Mile 15.5:

320 yards North of Dundee Road.

Mile 16 :

55 yards North of fire hydrant due East of Carillon Tower.
Between the main island and the road, there are the three Japanese Garden Islands.

Mile 16.5:

70 yards South of Lake Cook Road.
