Can I sign up for a training program the day it starts?
Yes. Bring your completed application if you have one, or you can fill out
one on site. You can pay with cash, a check, or a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, or Discover).
If you signed up online, print your registration confirmation and bring it with you.

Can I sign up for a training program after it starts?
Yes. However, depending on the program, you might have to wait to receive your
materials (book, singlet, etc.) in the mail. Typically, those items are distributed at the
first session. Fees cannot be prorated for people who sign up late.

What happens if I get hurt and can’t complete a training program?
Injuries are unfortunate, but occasionally do occur. Refunds will not be
provided -- in full or in part -- after a program begins. The logistics of doing so are
complicated, and the funds have already been allocated to program resources, materials,
and administration.

I can’t attend some of the clinics or training runs. Do I get a discount?
No. The logistics of calculating those rates and administering who gets what
are complicated and can’t be accurately monitored over the course of a program that lasts
for many weeks.

If I miss a clinic, can I still get any handouts that were provided?
Yes. Contact the CARA office at 312.666.9836 or
info@cararuns.org
. Let us know what program you are in and what session you missed,
and provide your address and phone number.

Can I switch the location I’m attending for clinics or training runs?
Yes. If you miss a clinic and want to attend one at another location, that’s
fine. If you decide you want to permanently change to another site for your clinics or training
runs, that’s fine, too.

If I decide that the pace group I’m in is too fast or slow, can I switch
groups?
Yes. It’s not uncommon for people to switch groups during the first week or
two while they find a comfortable pace level.

Who can register for Speed Training?
Anyone who runs regularly can register for
Speed Training. There is no
speed or pace requirement. The program is designed to help runners of all levels improve
their performance.

I've never run before and want to start. Which program is for me?
Beginning Running
is the best route to go. The first workout consists of a
five-minute walk followed by a two-minute run repeated three times. It gradually works
you up to be able to run continually for 30 minutes.

I used to run, and I want to start up again. Which program is for me?
If you haven't run in quite a while,
Beginning Running
is the best route to go. Why risk injury or burnout? Work your
way up gradually for the best success. The first workout for
5k Training
participants includes a 1.5-mile run and the first workout
for
10k Training
participants includes a 3-mile run. If you cannot run either of
these distances continually (without stopping), then opt for Beginning Running.

Do you run on the same day as the clinics in the training program?
Yes (in
Beginning Running
,
5k Training
, and
10k Training
). Each session includes a clinic on a different topic. This
portion usually takes about 30 minutes. Afterward, people will split into their respective
groups for their run.
Peak Performance
and
Speed Training
also include running at each session.
Half Marathon Training
and
Marathon Training
are the only programs where the clinics and group runs are
separate.

Do the monthly CARA Clinics include running?
No.
CARA Clinics at Fleet Feet Sports
(held monthly on Sundays) are casual, informational sessions
only.

Why aren't race fees included in your training programs?
Most people have a preferred method of registering for races. Some want
to register earlier; some, later. Some want to register online; some, via mail or on site.
Some want to pay with a credit card; some don't. Excluding fees gives participants the
flexibility they want. In addition, not all CARA training programs lead up to a specific
event. There might be several race choices available around the conclusion of a given
program, and this way participants can select the one they want.
